In 1921,China Communist Party founded. The first national congress of CPC was held in No. 76 Xingye Road. The meeting participants included Mao Zedong, Chen Duxiu, and He Shuheng and so on. But during the meeting, the meeting site was rummaged and inspected by policemen of French concession. On 31, July, 1921, the meeting site was removed to a cruise in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province.
In 1923, the first wireless radio stations founded in Shanghai, it was operated by an American Journalist Ausbio. It was also the first wireless radio station in China. But it stopped broadcasting in April 1923.
In 1925, 30-May tragedy happened, on 30, May, 1925, thousands of students and workers of Shanghai deprecated that the authority of concession illegally arrested some students and workers, and British policemen brought down more than 10 people and a large number of people were seriously wounded in this tragedy.
In 1932, Outbreak of Songhu Resistance War. On 21, January, 1932, due to Japanese consul general in Shanghai picked a quarrel in Sanyou Industrial group but he was hurt there, so he sent the ultimatum to municipal mayor of Shanghai and intimidated Shanghai Mayor to give response before 6 o’clock pm on 28. Later, the mayor accepted all the demands. But the Japanese army suddenly attacked Zhabei crazily. China’s nineteenth army-corps strongly resisted Japanese army’s invasion and attack, and Chinese generals Jiang Guangnai and Cai Tingkai quickly got to Zhenru station and took this as temporary headquarters to command this battle. In February, the war still lasted and China’s Communist Party released a resolution on this event and appealed the workers, farmers and soldiers revolted and engaged in this resistance war. During this battle, the loss of the war was up to 1,500,000,000 Yuan and the number of casualty is up to 18,000.
In 1932, the commander in chief of Japanese army for invading shanghai was blasted to death. On 29, April 1932, Japanese invaders held ceremony and dress parade, and one patriot threw the grenade to the chairperson stage, and the Japanese commander in chief was blasted to death.
In 1937, the anti-Japanese war thoroughly and formally broke out. On 12, September, Shanghai was occupied by Japan. During the Second World War, Shanghai also accepted many Jewish refugees when it was suffering from the outer invasion and war from evil Japan.
In 1945, Japanese troop surrendered
In 1948, Jiangya Ship was bombed to sink and more than 1600 passengers died. This is a very serious tragedy in China’s navigation history. 



In 1949, Shanghai was liberated and Shanghai people broadcasting station began to broadcast. In the same year, Shanghai people’s municipal government was established and Chen Yi was appointed to be the first mayor under the reign of CPC. Soviet Union was the first country that established consulate general in Shanghai.
In 1952, the first group of dwelling house was built for excellent workers and producers and in the same year, 15 universities were all selected to be the state-owned ones.
In 1958, the Shanghai Television Station was established
In 1959, eight universities like Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, Tongji University, East China university of Science and technology, Donghua University, Shanghai Foreign language studies university and so on were ranked to be the national key universities.
In 1964, the first international airline opened, the alteration project on Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was completed, and the first international airline after liberation from Shanghai to Pakistan was opened.
In 1966, the Cultural Revolution began in Shanghai and ended in1976.
In 1972, after the diplomatic-relation establishment between China and Japan, the Japanese premier visited Shanghai. It is the first time that the premier of Japan visited Shanghai.
In 1977, the Shanghai Bao-shan Steel plant was established.
In 1983, Shanghai Athlete Zhu Jianhua broke the world record on high jump for three times.
In 1984, Shanghai Volkswagen automobile co. ltd established.
In 1985, the subway of Shanghai was in construction.
In 1986, The Queen of The U.K visited Shanghai, and this year shanghai was selected as China’s national historical and cultural city.
In 1990, China central government declared the exploitation and opening of Pudong in Shanghai.
In 1992, Japanese Mikado and kaiserin visited Shanghai
In 1995, Oriental Pearl TV Tower was completed and became the symbolic architecture of Shanghai, and this year the construction of Shanghai Pudong international airport was in preparation.
In 1996, the new exhibition hall of Shanghai Museum was opened and meanwhile the new hall of Shanghai Library and Shanghai information exchange network were also opened.
In 1998, Jinmao Tower was completed. This building is 420.5 meter and the highest building in China in the 20th century. In the meantime, Shanghai Grand Theater was also completed and it was the largest stage in Asia.
In 2001, Shanghai Cooperation Organization was finally formed and this organization was comprised of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
