In Shanghai, the Jews founded their own press and broadcasting station. They also published some Jewish books. They also made the great achievement in this regard. According to the inadequate calculation, the number of newspapers or magazines that Shanghai Jews founded is more than 50. Many of them were done during the time of Second World War.

In 1941, Shanghai Jews founded the most-influential Jewish English newspaper - Israel’s Messenger. After the stop publication of this famous newspaper, a large number of newspapers focusing on the Jewish refugee appeared like Our Life, Our words and so on. Others included: Shanghai Jewish Chronicle, which was the oldest Jewish German newspaper; Yellow Paper as one of the most excellent weekly newspapers; Shanghai Morning Post as the newspaper peak of Shanghai Jewish refugees and so on.

In 1939, Shanghai Jewish Refugees opened their own XMHA broadcasting station. The programs were broadcasted in German; it worked one hour every afternoon. People could enjoy the active and relaxing music, news reports and living programs. The most welcome report was the special report on World current affairs and Shanghai Jew’s living conditions. What should mention is that those German Jews never forgot to carry their books when they fled away from their house in a flurry. After the out-break of The Pacific War, some Jews in Shanghai lived on selling books.

During the war-time, the refugees lived a hard but optimistic life. In 1912, Shanghai Jews established their own Sports Organization--- the Jewish Recreation Club. Initially, due to the limitation of Jewish population, its level was not high. But as a large number of European Jewish Refugee entered Shanghai, this club became very dynamic and popular.

In 1939, with the help of Jewish Children Welfare Fund, the first Shanghai Jewish sports meeting was held on Jingzhou Road. This was a big event in Shanghai Jews’ life. After the sports meeting, it participated into the Shanghai football league matches and kept its excellent performance among Shanghai football teams. Perhaps, the most remarkable Jewish sports-team was JRC boxing team which 400 members came from Germany and Austria and so on. It was a strong team in Shanghai and in 1946 it beat the boxing members of American Navy. It vastly stirred in Shanghai. The handball, tennis, tennis-ball, international chess and track and field were also welcome among these Jewish refugees.
