In such a metropolis like Shanghai, city life is much more convenient for citizens. Apart from a gigantic and well-organized transportation network including Metro and public buses, taxis are busily shuttling in the city, taking people to every corner in urban areas. Taxis in Shanghai have shaped their own unique style. More than 500,000 taxis are painted with different colors: red, yellow, green and blue, indicating that they belong to different taxi companies. Taxis in some small outlying areas, for example, Jiading District, situated in the northwest of Shanghai, are
all black. Unlike those of other cities, taxi drivers in Shanghai usually wear a tie to go for their work. They wipe their cars clean and a certain number of taxis in Shanghai have been equipped with taxi-mounted mobile TV so that passenger can entertain themselves in the car.
The environment is exceptionally satisfying, but in the meantime you have to pay a higher fare than in other cities around China. The starting fare is 11 Yuan for the first 3 kilometers and then you have to pay 3 Yuan per kilometer. People pay for their taxi fares either in cash or with “Shanghai Public Transportation Cards”, which also are acceptable among Metro and public buses.
