Sightseeing on the Huangpu RiverWitnessing the ups and downs of the city, Huangpu River is such a symbolic figure in the history of Shanghai. 114 kilometers long and 400 meters wide, Huangpu River divides Shanghai into east and west, and finally flows into the Yangtze River at the mouth of Wusong River. In the past, ferry was the only vehicle crossing the river. As many bridges, tunnels, and Metro are constructed in recent years, people have more choices. However, ferryboats, with a century’s history in Shanghai, are still popular and play an important role in Shanghai’s transportation because of their convenience and low prices.

The east bank, i.e. Pudong District, is a brand new district in Shanghai and now serves as a financial hub in China. People can see numerous skyscrapers standing there, including the well-known Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jinmao Building, and offices and malls of the Lujiazui Financial Zone. Nowadays, the ferry operates from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and stops at the Bund, East Jinling Road Ferry Station, and Dongjiadu Ferry Station on the west bank of Huangpu River ; Lujiazui, Dongchang Road Ferry Station and Nanmatou Ferry Station on the east bank of the river. The ferries may vary from the ordinary class to the luxurious class, which can offer bars, conference rooms and banquet halls.
